Day 43: To Lost Maples State Natural Area

Monday March 15, 2010, 52 miles (84 km) - Total so far: 1,792 miles (2,884 km)

We left Kerrville by 8:30, hoping to hit a grocery store and get a few miles in before heading to the bike shop, which didn't open til 10. We stocked up our food supply, then we all got some new tubes as well. It was pretty nice riding, hilly, but clear for most of the day. We gained elevation most of the day, which paid off greatly in the end. About 1/4 mile before the campground, there was this monster dropoff, and we just coasted into the campground at like 40 mph. Everything was full, but the had some primitive sites available. The ranger actually let us pitch our tents just outside the overflow parking lot since we were on bikes, and to get to the actual sites, you'd have to hike over a mile in. It started to downpour about 20 minutes after we got everything setup. I think I was asleep by 8, just listening to the thunder and rain.

The fence to this house had hundreds of boots on the posts. Kind of odd.
