Day 35&36: Hempstead, Tx: Rest Days

Published on 2010-03-08 by Bryan Carbone

Sunday March 7 and Monday March 8, 2010

So we spent the last two days at Ryan's Aunt's house. We had planned on taking a rest day Sunday. It started off early, saying goodbye to Sara around 7:00. We are all sad to see her go, but were just as sad seeing her unhappy for most of the trip. Hopefully, she makes the most of her time off from work and enjoys it! A few hours later, Peggy got up and made a wonderful breakfast; pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits, and coffee. It was delicious. We relaxed all day, went for a drive around town, and watched some tv. Then she made some chili for dinner. The forecast for Monday was rain, so we decided to stay here for another day off. It didn't end up raining that bad, but the rest was welcomed. We went into town and resupplied, hit the post office and Wal-Mart, and relaxed some more. We got Pizzas when Peggy got home from work. We said our goodbyes already since she leaves for work super early. Getting all our gear together now so we can get a nice early start tomorrow. Heading to Carmine Texas to a warmshowers host, should be about 50 miles.

Tur-Duc-Hen. Haha, saw this at the grocery store. It looked like it'd been sittin there for a very long time.

Leaving Sam Houston NF.
Leftover chili and a new belgium fat tire for lunch. Perfect on a rainy day.
Ryan's Aunt Peggy (standing) and her housemate Marilyn. We had a great time staying here, and they are both great people. Thanks again!
